This website discusses how fashion and clothing are used to maintain Islamophobic discourse. Even since the expulsion of the moors from Spain, the West has used offensive and inaccurate clothing to propagate negative, inhuman images of Muslims. In the past and today, the makers of Western cultural production (directors, music artists, photographers, advertisers, etc) portray Muslim men as either violent or unintelligent and Muslim women as either oppressed or sexual deviants. However, Muslims fashion designers and other are trying to challenge these old stereotypes. They are educating others about the history of fashion trends in Muslim countries and breaking into the traditionally Western-dominated high fashion scene, showing Islam and couture are not analogous.
